After eight years leading Ebbsfleet Development Corporation, Chief Executive Ian Piper has announced his retirement.
Since joining the Corporation in 2017, Ian has played a pivotal role in driving forward the vision for Ebbsfleet Gaden City, transforming plans into tangible progress and establishing the foundations for a vibrant, sustainable new community.
Under Ian’s leadership, Ian has:
- Facilitated the delivery of over 5,000 new homes across the Urban Development Area.
- Secured and provided millions of pounds of investment into the local community.
- Supported major infrastructure projects and improvements, connecting people and places.
- Achieved outline planning permission for Ebbsfleet Central, the future commercial and civic heart of Ebbsfleet.
- Built and maintained strong relationships with central government, local authorities, developers and residents.
Reflecting on his time at EDC, Ian has said:
“It has been a privilege to help shape the future of Ebbsfleet and to see our vision for a vibrant garden city take root. None of this would have been possible without the dedication of our partners, stakeholders and the EDC team, whose commitment has been inspiring.
I’m incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together and confident that the next phase will continue to build on these strong foundations.”
Chair of Ebbsfleet Development Corporation, Dr David Prout, said:
“Over the past decade, Ebbsfleet has grown from a bold idea into a thriving and confident community, one that already reflects our vision of an exemplar garden city. We have made enormous progress: over 5,000 homes delivered, new schools and green spaces established, and the plans for a vibrant town centre emerging at Ebbsfleet Central.
Our next Chief Executive will play a defining role in delivering the next chapter. You will lead delivery of our most ambitious phase yet, unlocking Ebbsfleet Central as the civic and commercial heart of Ebbsfleet Garden City, maintaining momentum on housing and infrastructure delivery and ensuring we continue to be a great partner to government, local authorities, developers and residents alike.”
Ian will step down spring 2026, and recruitment is now underway for a new Chief Executive to lead the Corporation into its next exciting chapter. Building on a decade of rapid progress, the successful candidate’s leadership will sustain and accelerate the momentum that has already transformed Ebbsfleet into one of the UK’s fastest growing new communities – guiding the project through its next ambitious phase of delivery.
