Three new Non-Executive Directors appointed to Board

Valerie Owen, OBE, Fred Maroudas and Simon Blanchflower CBE have been appointed as Non-Executive Directors to champion delivery of Ebbsfleet in North Kent.

On 21 July 2022, the Right Honourable Greg Clark MP, Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, appointed Valerie Owen, Fred Maroudas and Simon Blanchflower as Members of the Ebbsfleet Development Corporation Board. Valerie, Fred, and Simon have been appointed for a term of 3 years from 20 July 2022 until 19 July 2025.

The appointees, with a wealth of experience within the property, finance, housing and regeneration fields, will join a Board that has oversight and responsibility for setting strategic direction for the plans to create a vibrant new community within Ebbsfleet, comprising up to 15,000 new homes and many thousands of jobs, all on former chalk quarries in North Kent.

Valerie, Fred, and Simon join the Board at an exciting time. Having recently celebrated the occupation of the 3,000th new home, Ebbsfleet Development Corporation will shortly submit its planning application for the first phase of Ebbsfleet Central, the 5.2m sq. ft commercial and mixed-use heart of the new community.

Simon Dudley, Chair of the EDC Board, welcomes the new appointees:

‘I am delighted that these exceptional candidates have accepted the role of Non-Executive Directors. With significant experience in development, infrastructure, finance and regeneration across a multitude of sectors, we look forward to the positive contribution their expertise will bring to the Board.

‘As we continue to champion Levelling Up priorities across Ebbsfleet, I am confident our new appointees will provide great opportunity for us to maximise innovation, promote delivery of high-quality homes, maximise local economic strength, and establish a dynamic and vibrant place where people want to live, work and play.

‘The recent celebration of our 3,000th home within Ebbsfleet cements our commitment to put residents at the heart of our garden city vision, creating a space that reflects the wants and needs of people who will directly benefit from local regeneration. Imminent confirmation of funding from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities will ensure that EDC can continue to drive key projects across Ebbsfleet and demand nothing less than the high quality placemaking demonstrated to date.’

The new Non-Executive Directors are experts from a broad range of industries who provide strategic leadership and oversight to the Corporation in delivering Ebbsfleet. The NEDs will support Simon in his role as chair of the Board and will work closely with other members to support Ebbsfleet Development Corporation priorities.

Ian Piper, CEO of EDC, welcomes the appointments:

‘EDC are delighted at the timely appointment of our new NEDs, all of whom will provide unique insight and fresh perspectives in delivering Ebbsfleet in line with our garden city principles. The appointments highlight our commitment to create a positive legacy within Ebbsfleet for local people and businesses within North Kent. We are excited to welcome them to the team and drive forward a number of exciting projects that are due to take place across Ebbsfleet.’
